Happy Anniversary – My first year in corporate world.

Posted by Subodh on January 1, 2011

It may be a bit late to post this, but it’s been in some drafts since long time. My New Year resolution being ‘Get it done’ hence this is one of the first thing I want to clear off.

July 1st 2010, I somehow managed to successfully complete one year in the organization.  Life during the past one year has been truly a roller coaster ride with full of ups and downs, obstacles and hurdles, something I never expected or anticipated. As it is said ‘Life would have been so simple if it were to be the way we wanted it to be’. It’s been like a party with some uninvited guests; some pleasant and some…. The journey begins once again, Down the Memory Lane.

It started on July 1st, 2009 with rigorous training program for about 3 weeks. With rigorous I mean it was as good as getting out of one classroom and entering the other in the corporate world. The only difference being the company paying for you to attend. Even though my lack of belief in classroom trainings, I must admit it helped me. Not to the amount it should have but only thing which mattered was it made me sit and concentrate from morning 9 to 7, 8, 9, 10, tough this was just the beginning.  For a guy like me for whom concentrating on a thing for more than 2 hours was like climbing Mount Everest, the tough times were about to start. The most important thing that I learnt from training (yes, I did manage to learn something from classrooms ;-)) was how to learn quickly. The reason being I had to understand it in a limited time, no other option. I had to get familiar with the stuff at hand. I started to compare things which were told to the things I know or to the things surrounding me. It really helped me visual things, and understand how things worked. This was the most important aspect which I think I would not have been acquired if I were to work in a field which I was familiar with, and it helped me or to rephrase, is the only reason I managed to survive. My journey…Down the Memory Lane…

Posted by Subodh on April 27, 2009

Yes. The very last semester of Engineering. Soon I would complete my engineering. As I started walking towards the department for the final submissions, something was bothering me but I continued walking. As I walked past the Civil Department Building, I peeked inside and saw myself as though I was looking in the mirror. I paused. Before I could realize anything I saw all my first year friends coming down the steps one by one. The passed me as though they didn’t see me. I was stunned for a second and then realized that it was only my imagination.

Something was calling me inside the building and I just followed it. As I stepped onto the first floor, I came across my first year’s classroom. All the memories started coming to mind as I started my journey… down the memory lane… Read the rest of this entry »

Finally Getting Placed…

Posted by Subodh on April 4, 2009

The night on the day of my first interview challenge was very much interesting. I neither had a sound sleep nor did I spend a sleepless night. I had dreams all night long and congratulated everyone who had been behind me in the dreams. Met everyone I admired. And more importantly I started admiring myself and I congratulated myself. But the job was not done I still had one more round of interview left which would be a telephonic round. But the problem was that the interview was scheduled on Tuesday. And I had another company coming on Monday. Our training and placement officer allowed us to sit for the interview just because I was not officially placed (Actually we as we were three, Tanmay and Rahul, who were sailing in the same boat). Hence I got up early in the morning so that I could prepare myself for another exam. But something had happened and I was feeling more and more confident. Bring It on was the only feeling I had.
The pre-placement talk (PPT) before the placement started and I had started feeling hungry but something drove me to concentrate more keenly. The more the time I heard about the company I found myself that I would be more and more fortunate about the company as it worked in finance domain and more importantly offered a good pay.  And then after appearing for the test and looking at the results I was pleased to see that all three of us were selected for the second round. The second round of interviews started. There were in all 21 students to be sort listed. Tanmay was first to be called. His technical interview was followed by the HR interview. Same was the case of Rahul. Mine name was not called. In the queue 5 students went one after the other. But after that only their Technical interview was conducted. They were NOT called for the HR round. I realized that their quota which they had fixed before coming here was full and didn’t have a chance.
I told to myself you can’t back down from here now. If Rahul and Tanmay go through and I am left alone I won’t think I have a chance for the earlier company through as the HR had already told us that their company would only select 2/3. As my chances were growing slimmer, the time and the day’s heat was setting down. As I looked out of the window I realized this is going to be one of the most challenging evenings for me in my entire life.
I went through the procedure of talking to myself and settling my nerves so that there would be no mistake on my side. Now there were only 2 students left in the waiting room, one was from some other college and the other one was me waiting anxiously. The coordinator from the company walked into the room and called the other person out. As he walked by me I just put my head up and said All the Best to him. (I know as I look back at this it may sound stupid to wish one of your competitor good luck but may be that were my pure instincts.) He casually walked he gave me a pleasing smile.
As he left the coordinator stayed back and started talking to me. He was just curious to know about my progress and my personal details but that helped me a lot. First, as I was quite for almost couple of hours, voice was not coming out of mouth. Talking to him made me feel more relax. Second it just made me feel good. And then I was finally called for the interview.

Fate or Destiny….

ye kahaan aa gaye hum

ye kahaan aa gaye hum

“Remember the day we first met. NOT knowing each other. Not even wanting to know.. Not even a smile. THEN we started with a blank ‘SMILE’. Then a ‘HELLO’. Then it became ‘HEY’.. And then ‘ABE AE’ and all. We spend seconds, hours and days together. Today just wanna tell you that you mean a lot to me…”…..

 Few months Earlier…

On a busy SUMMER days of PLs (Preparatory Leaves before the semester examination), I was in the library, trying to get the grasp of the subject. I was feeling sleepy after lunch and the boring subject which I was reading or trying to read was like a sweet song. The time was 2 o clock.  Beep! Beep!  The cell phone rang. I picked up and realised it was a sms. First thought was it must be a promotional sms from the company. I unlocked the keypad and opened the in-box it read….
